As a prominent feature of the face, the nose lends to the overall harmony of your facial features. Do you find your nose to be too flat, too large, or too small for your face? If you are dissatisfied with the natural appearance of your nose, or have an obstruction causing difficulties in breathing, a
rhinoplasty or “nose job” can refine the shape, structure, width, angle, and other features of your nose.
Top nose job surgeon, Dr. Philip Miller in Manhattan, New York can help you achieve a nose you will love –whether by reshaping a nose that will complement and enhance your natural beauty and facial symmetry, or by restoring its functionality by correcting any structural abnormalities that are interfering with your nasal passages.
Dr. Miller offers the following nose surgery procedures.
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty / Nose Jobs
Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that changes the shape of the entire nose or just a small portion of it. It can be done for cosmetic reasons –such as to change the nose’s shape and appearance to make it fit more harmoniously with the rest of the face. It can also be done to improve the nose’s function, for instance, to correct breathing problems associated with structural issues as a result of trauma or birth defects.
Just like women, men can also be dissatisfied with their overall appearance because of a nose that is either too big or too small, or could be misshapen due to an injury or birth defect. A rhinoplasty can improve a man’s appearance by creating facial symmetry, or providing relief from conditions such as sleep apnea and excessive snoring.
A very conservative approach is employed in evaluating teenage rhinoplasty patients in New York City. Careful patient selection and parental involvement ensure that the process is beneficial and highly successful for the patient. Benefits of teen rhinoplasty include improved self-confidence, comfortable breathing, and better health.
Also called reduction rhinoplasty, a nose reduction by Dr. Miller provides a solution for those who want a smaller nose, whether in terms of width, nostril size, or profile. The procedure involves removing nasal cartilage and bone, trimming, or rearranging them to achieve a smaller shape. During the healing process, the skin will shrink down and adopt the new, smaller nasal structure.
A nose reshaping procedure incorporates a variety of techniques to increase or decrease the overall size of the nose, reduce or eliminate bumps or humps, or modify nostril size. Nose reshaping can also be performed to correct restricted airflow through the nasal cavities.
Also known as liquid rhinoplasty, non-surgical rhinoplasty allows the surgeon to alter the shape, size, and position of the nasal tip, straighten the nose, or hide bumps through the use of injectable fillers. Injectable fillers can painlessly, safely, and effectively reshape the nose, resulting in a dramatic difference in the overall appearance of the face.
MicroRhinoplasty allows the surgeon to reduce or eliminate a hump or bump in the nose without resorting to bone fracturing or other highly invasive procedures. It uses an innovative air-powered micro rasp to remove the obtrusive bony layers with extreme precision until the desired nose contour is achieved. The procedure can be completed in as little as five minutes.

Wide nostrils can contribute to the appearance of an oversized nose that draws attention away from the eyes and face. To reduce nostril size, portions of the surrounding tissue are removed through incisions made on either below or inside the nose.
Virtual Rhinoplasty utilizes advanced computer imaging and technology to provide patients with the ability to see what their rhinoplasty results will look like from the comfort of Dr. Miller's consultation chair. Pre-operative photographs of the nose will be taken from different angles and will be uploaded to a computer. With virtual rhinoplasty, patients can “try on” a variety of changes to find the look that is best for them.
For patients who are unsatisfied with the outcome of their first rhinoplasty, they have the option of undergoing a revision rhinoplasty, also referred to as secondary rhinoplasty. The procedure will repair the shape and internal function of the nose.
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure for treating nasal blockage. The septum is the wall of bone and cartilage that divides the nose into two separate nostrils. This can be crooked in some people, resulting in a deviated septum. Septoplasty will straighten the septum, allowing for improved airflow through the nose.
Patients can suffer from both a deviated septum and chronically enlarged turbinates (the bony, mucosa-lined outgrowths on the sides of each nostril). Septoplasty and turbinate reduction will be performed to realign the septum and achieve facial balance and symmetry, and to reduce or remove the nasal turbinates, providing relief from nasal blockage, mucus production, and nasal drip.
Accidents or injuries from contact sports can result in nasal fractures and broken noses. While some broken noses can be resolved with a basic alignment procedure, most cases will need surgery. Depending on the severity of the break, one or more of these procedures will be required to restore full functionality and appearance to the nose: Closed reduction of nasal fracture, open reduction of nasal fracture, rhinoplasty, and septoplasty.
A less-invasive treatment designed to open up blocked sinus passageways, balloon sinuplasty will help drain mucus buildup in patients who suffer from chronic sinusitis. The procedure uses a small, inflatable catheter (balloon catheter) to open up blocked sinus passageways and is inserted through the nostril and into the inflamed sinus. The catheter is then inflated to expand the sinus opening, allowing it to be flushed with saline solution to remove mucus buildup, after which the balloon catheter is deflated and removed.
Typically the result of anatomic and functional problems, nasal obstruction can result in dysfunctional airflow in the nose. Nasal surgery is performed to improve the nasal airway. Common procedures include septoplasty and septoplasty & turbinate reduction.
Each ethnic nose presents unique structural characteristics. Most ethnic rhinoplasty patients aim to improve the appearance of their nose while still retaining and preserving their ethnic identity. Achieving a westernized look is not the goal but rather, an improved nasal appearance that is in harmony with the rest of their facial features.
Specialized techniques are utilized for Asian nose surgery to achieve the best possible results without impacting the patient’s ethnic identity. Asian rhinoplasty can address common issues such as a flat nasal profile, flared nostrils, or a wide nasal tip.
This surgical procedure is designed to consider the unique characteristics and concerns of African-American patients. African-American rhinoplasty can correct common issues such as thick skin on the nose, wide nostrils, or a weak or thin cartilage in the tip of the nose.
Persian rhinoplasty is designed to reshape the nose and produce results that are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also preserve the patient’s ethnic identity. Persian rhinoplasty can address common nasal issues such as a bulbous nasal tip or a large nasal profile.

A Middle-Eastern “nose job” is a type of ethnic nose reshaping that is designed to consider the patient’s unique features and concerns, producing results that are aesthetically pleasing yet preserve the patient’s ethnic identity. Middle-Eastern Rhinoplasty can correct common issues such as a bulbous or hanging nasal tip, a large nasal profile, or a curvature of the nasal bridge.
Techniques specifically designed for the nasal features of Korean patients will be utilized to produce positive results that both achieve facial harmony and preserve ethnic identity. Korean rhinoplasty can address common nasal issues such as a flat nasal profile, wide nasal tip, or wide nostrils.
Specialized techniques will be used to help patients achieve their aesthetic goals without sacrificing their ethnic identity. Jewish rhinoplasty can correct common concerns such as an overprojected nasal tip or a large dorsal hump.
A customized treatment plan ensures that the patient achieves a nose that matches his or her facial characteristics without impacting ethnic identity. An Indian rhinoplasty can successfully address concerns such as a hump or bump on the nasal bridge, thicker skin on the nose, wide nasal structure, or a rounded nasal tip.

Each procedure is specially designed to achieve excellent aesthetic results while maintaining the patient’s ethnic identity. Hispanic rhinoplasty can correct common nasal issues such as a large bridge, a flat nasal tip and bridge, or wide, flat nostrils.
The nose is comprised of two areas –the outside and inside. Any nuance within each of these areas can result in a nose possessing undesirable characteristics such as a hump, bump, or a nasal blockage. Regardless of the reasons for seeking rhinoplasty, the patient’s unique nose structure and characteristics will impact all aspects of a nose job procedure. To better understand how and why rhinoplasty works, one should have a basic understanding of how the nose is built.
